Zomeruitje!

Mijn tentoonstelling Eastward Bound in het Fotomuseum Den Haag is te zien tot en met zondag 22 augustus. Ik zal zelf de laatste drie zondagen van twaalf tot vijf uur bij mijn expositie aanwezig zijn om vragen van bezoekers te beantwoorden. Het betreft 8, 15 en 22 augustus. Van harte welkom!

I will be present at my exhibition Eastward Bound in the Hague Museum of Photography on sunday afternoon August 8, 15 and 22th from twelve until five pm to talk and answer questions of visitors. Welcome!

Starting on the 24th of April until the 22nd of August The Hague Museum of Photography (Fotomuseum Den Haag) will host a large solo-exhibition of my work. The exhibition will give an overview of the photographs I made in the first ten years of my career.

Together with the opening of the exhibition two new books will be published. The first book will be a big collection of my work, starting in Romania and from there slowly moving East, to different countries in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Asia. The second book will be a sketchbook, containing a collection of Instax Mini photos I took the last two years during my travels.

Van 24 april tot en met 22 augustus zal het Fotomuseum in Den Haag een grote overzichtstentoonstelling van mijn werk organiseren. De tentoonstelling toont fotos die ik de eerste tien jaar van mijn carriere heb gemaakt.

Tegelijk met de opening zullen er twee nieuwe boeken verschijnen. Het eerste boek wordt een overzichtswerk, beginnend in Roemenie en vandaar uit langzaam richting verschillende landen in Oost-Europa, de Kaukasus en Azie. Het tweede boek wordt een soort schetsboek, met een verzameling van Instax Mini fotos die ik de afgelopen twee jaar heb gemaakt.

From the 12th of May until the 16th of May the New York Photo Festival takes place. There will be an exhibition about Dutch photobooks. My new books Eastward Bound and Schetsbook will be shown in a special edition. These special editions will also be for sale in my webshop soon.

Van 12 mei tot en met 16 mei wordt het New York Photo Festival gehouden. Bij een tentoonstelling over Nederlandse fotoboeken worden speciale edities van mijn boeken Eastward Bound en Schetsboek getoond. De speciale edities van deze boeken worden binnenkort ook aangeboden in mijn webwinkel.

In May I will continue working on the project about the Black Sea. Together with writer/journalist Olaf Tempelman we will travel from the Russian town Sochi to the Turkish capital Istanbul. It will be our fifth visit to the Black Sea region. In the second part of 2010 a book will be made with Olafs texts and my photos.

In mei krijgt het Zwarte Zee project een vervolg. Samen met schrijver/journalist Olaf Tempelman maak ik een reis van het Russische Sochi naar de Turkse hoofdstad Istanbul. Het wordt ons vijfde bezoek aan de Zwarte Zee regio. In de tweede helft van 2010 staat het boek met Olafs teksten en mijn fotos in de planning.

Italian publisher Motta published the photobook Future Images, edited by Mario Cresci, isbn 978-88-6413-017-0, introducing the work of approximately 120 photographers from around the world. The book contains a selection of my portraits. Future Images is a beautifully designed large format book with hard cover with an impressive selection of photography. I strongly recommend it.

De Italiaanse uitgever Motta heeft onlangs het fotoboek Future Images uitgebracht, onder redactie van Mario Cresci, isbn 978-88-6413-017-0, met een selectie van het werk van ongeveer 120 fotografen. Van mij staan er een aantal portretten in het boek. Future Images is een prachtig vormgegeven groot formaat hard cover boek met een indrukwekkende selectie fotos. Ik kan het zeer aanbevelen.

My book Het Lente-eiland was chosen as one of the best designed books of 2008.

Mijn boek het Lente-eiland is uitverkozen tot een van de best verzorgde boeken van 2008. Uit het juryrapport Best verzorgde boeken 2008:

'Van Duyvendijks werk is van zo'n indringende poetische en visuele schoonheid dat je je geen betere kan wensen om het werk van Slauerhoff grijpbaar en begrijpelijk te maken. De prachtige fotografie volgt het gedicht waarmee het verhaal afsluit, nauwgezet. De typografie is in combinatie met de Chinese karakters, de ruime interlinie en dito witmarges bijna zinnelijk te noemen. [...] Je kunt niet anders concluderen dan dat vormgever Rick Vermeulen er in geslaagd is om alle componenten op rake wijze bij elkaar te brengen. Een kostbaar kleinood is het resultaat, een boek om als een geschenk uit de hemel te koesteren. Voor kenners wellicht ten overvloede, maar voor een nieuwe generatie die nog onbekend is met het werk van Slauerhoff, ligt hier een onweerstaanbare uitnodiging zijn werk beter te leren kennen.'

For my forthcoming exhibition in The Hague and new publications I spent a big part of 2009 making new work in Romania, Bulgaria, China, South Korea and Japan. For Dutch national daily newspaper De Volkskrant I made a series about youth fashion in South Korea. It was published july 11th. For the City Archive in Amsterdam I worked on a photo-project about the Eastern European/Polish community in Amsterdam.

Voor mijn tentoonstelling in het Fotomuseum in Den Haag ben ik in 2009 druk bezig geweest om nieuw werk te maken in Roemenie, Bulgarije, China, Zuid-Korea en Japan. Een deel van de resultaten is op de website te zien. Voor de Volkskrant heb ik de zomerserie Hip in Zuid-Korea gemaakt. Deze is 11 juli verschenen in het katern Intermezzo. Voor het Stadsarchief Amsterdam heb ik een fotoserie gemaakt over Oost-Europeanen in Amsterdam.

Uit Japan. Van 26 maart tot en met 24 mei 2009 was in Galerie LUMC de groepsexpositie Uit Japan te zien.
